Acupuncture can treat the nerve pain of trigeminal neuralgia
Trigeminal neuralgia is an especially tough facial pain, feeling somewhat like electric shock. It makes any touch to your face painful and can ruin your day in minutes.
The trigeminal nerve travels directly from the brain to your face and is responsible for sensation in your face as well as for movements associated with chewing and swallowing. The nerve’s malfunction causes trigeminal neuralgia and all of the associated biting pain.
Luckily, acupuncture is effective at bringing you relief from trigeminal neuralgia. Usually, doctors prescribe carbamazepine (brand names Tegretol and Carbatrol) to patients suffering from this horrible condition. While these drugs help relieve the pain, they do not cure the underlying condition. Meanwhile, Dr. Shmidt has been able to fully cure trigeminal neuralgia with acupuncture. Plus, unlike the drugs, acupuncture doesn’t have side effects.
In my practice, I use an integrative approach to treatment, working together with doctors to manage your pain. With the help of acupuncture and herbal medicine, the patients are sometimes able to reduce - and even eliminate - their medicine intake. Dr. Shmidt has had considerable success in achieving full relief in the most extreme cases of trigeminal neuralgia. Moreover, in her unique expertise, Dr. Shmidt is able to completely eliminate trigeminal neuralgia for many of her patients. This is a rare achievement for this devastating condition.
